The Journal of Consumer Health on the Internet (JCHI) is the only
professional, peer-reviewed journal devoted to locating consumer
health information on the Internet. JCHI (formerly Health Care on
the Internet) provides a forum for librarians and health information
providers to describe programs and services aimed at helping patients
and the general public find needed health information via the
Internet. Studies have shown that health information is one of the
major reasons that people worldwide access the Internet. As the
amount of health information on the Web increases exponentially, it
becomes critical that librarians – including public and medical
librarians – be knowledgeable about what is available online and be
able to direct users to reliable, accurate, quality information.
JCHI is the ideal journal for you to publish a description of the
programs and services that you provide to help consumers and patients
find online health information.
Examples of topics that are relevant to JCHI :
Evaluation and selection of Web-based consumer health resources
Evaluation of free health Web sites
Descriptions of consumer health information programs relying on Web-
based resources
Training consumers how to find health information on the Web
Descriptions of programs for specialized populations that instruct or
help these users to find health information on the Internet (e.g.,
aged, rural populations, minority groups)
Criteria for evaluating quality consumer health sites
Alternative and complementary health sites
