Many journals charge $35 or more just to see one article -- a cost that can snowball as patients seek the latest information about their illnesses." The National Library of Medicine's Board of Regents last month recommended to NIH Director Elias Zerhouni that scientists who receive NIH grants be required to post their results within six months of publication. However, the regents recommended that there be some flexibility for journals that publish infrequently and could be hurt by free access to their contents within six months.
